Data Recovery

Accidents and mistakes can happen at any time. Sometimes your data is a victim of these occurrences. Allow us to help remedy that situation.

Free In-Shop Diagnostics

Accidental Deletion and Corruption

We have software available in-shop to help assist you in the event of an accidental file deletion or data corruption on your internal, external, USB Flash, or solid state drive.

Slowing / Failing Drives

When your drive is showing signs of wear and on the verge of failing, accessing your data becomes more and more difficult. Luckily, we have the powerful tools needed to access those files even on failing drives.

Non-Responsive / Dead Drives

Sometimes a drive has failed to the point where in-shop data recovery is not possible. Good news, however. We are partnered with Seagate to provide high-tech data laboratory recovery options.

Dreaded Ransomware Encryption

Oh no. You attempt to access an important document file you've been working on and suddenly it doesn't work. You realize you've been the victim of ransomware and are being forced to pay ridiculous amounts of money or else. No need to worry. We have a selection of decryption tools with high success rates to help free you from these ransoms.

Sounds good. How much is it going to cost?

It is hard to say for sure exactly how much it will cost until we see your storage device. For accidental deletions and file corruption, you are typically looking at a $79 charge. If the drive is starting to fail, but can still be recovered in-shop, the charge is $199. In the event the drive is unresponsive, or in-shop recovery efforts are not successful, then we can get a quote from our Seagate recovery partnership program to send the device to a recovery lab. We do start all in-shop repairs with a free diagnostic so that we can determine how bad the situation is and provide you with an obligation-free quote before proceeding.

I need these files asap. How long will it take?

Our standard turn-a-round time is 3-5 days for the free diagnostic. We do offer an expedite option for those who need results as soon as possible for a low fee of $35. The actual recovery time can vary based on how many files you have to recover, the size of the drive, and what kind of condition the drive is in. Failing drives tend to take longer to recover as the sectors the data are stored on are failing and can take time to respond to requests. For situations where the drive needs to be sent to Seagate's recovery lab, it can take three to four weeks for the recovery to complete and the drive to be shipped back.

I was a victim of ransomware. What are the chances I can get my files back?

Although our tools have a high success rate, new versions of these ransomware viruses are created quite often. Our decryption software is able to keep up with the majority of these new viruses, but as new encryption techniques are introduced, updates to our software may be required and decryption may not be possible until said updates are available. We do not advise that you pay the ransom to get their decryption tool as there is no guarantee the tool will even work.

How did I become a victim of ransomware? How do I protect myself?

Unfortunately, hackers and virus creators are finding new ways to infect computers every day. The first thing you would want to do is make sure you are protected from viruses. Please check out our protection plans page for more information. However, even with antivirus, these infections can still occur through various ways. Most common way of getting on your computer is via an email. Protect yourself by not opening any attachments from individuals you do not know. Often times opening these attachments is what triggers the code to activate the virus. Also, be weary of clicking on any unknown popups or downloading files from websites that are not trusted or you are not familiar with.
